Vaishnavi is Head Teacher at Pokhrama Foundation Academy where she has taught since 2020. Vaishnavi has a BE in Civil Engineering, and an M.A. in Education from Azim Premji University, Bengaluru. Vaishnavi was a Teach for India Fellow. During this fellowship, she worked as a teacher in a government school in Chennai for two years. She worked as a School Transformation Lead (STL) for a year at MANTRA, a
Bengaluru-based non-profit. She has also worked with the Social Welfare Department of Andhra Pradesh as an Academic Fellow, looking after the effectiveness of its educational programmes and policies.
Vaishnavi spends almost all her waking hours surrounded by her students at PFA. This untiring engagement with students comes easy to her because she feels Pokhrama students are different from students she has encountered elsewhere. ‘The students’, she says, ‘are so thirsty for knowledge, and are ready to spend so many hours in trying to make sense of things they are curious about, how can one not stay up along with them?’. The Learning Center at Pokhrama Foundation is Vaishnavi’s brain child, and she leads the efforts of training and mentoring student volunteers of the Learning Center.
When not surrounded by the children of PFA, Vaishnavi enjoys reading poetry and watching movies.
